The beach is only a few minutes away. You can drive onto and park on the beach, but be sure to obey the signs.
In a boat, canoe, or kayak, the bay is just a short trip down the canal.
Galveston Island has one of the most diverse bird populations in the world. From sandpipers on the beach, to great blue herons in the marsh, they're a constant source of amusement.
The ferry is the greatest free entertainment in Texas. A short drive into town and you can ride the ferry across the bay to Bolivar Peninsula, and then back. You can watch dolphins and feed the seagulls from the deck. If the line is too long, you can drive to the landing, park, and walk on.

Shrimp and Stuff, at 39th and O, is our favorite restaurant. NOT fancy, just good, reasonably priced seafood, year round.
They also have a food truck that is often parked at the east end of Jamaica Beach.
Nate's is just west of Jamaica Beach and offers a variety of good food.
Mario's is only a few minutes away, in Pirate's Beach. Good pizza and they also deliver.
The Subway in Jamaica Beach has great sandwiches and friendly staff.
